Short-Term Rehabilitation FAQs

What is Short-Term Rehabilitation?
Following hospitalization for an acute medical episode or serious surgery, a period of physical rehabilitation is often necessary. This stepping stone enables an individual to successfully return home with the greatest level of independence possible.

What can I expect in Short-Term Rehab?
Rehabilitative care may include daily physical, occupational and/or speech therapy, depending on the individual’s needs.

Who qualifies for Short-Term Rehab?
Most insurance coverage, including Medicare, requires a defined stay in an acute care setting prior to coming for rehabilitation.

How is it paid for?
Medicare and private insurance cover rehabilitation if you qualify.

What is the usual length of stay?
Length of stay depends on an individual’s ability to make progress and complete established rehabilitative goals.

What happens when the patient is ready to go home?
A clinical team reviews the patient’s progress and determines whether or not other services are required before he or she may return home. A discharge planner coordinates the recommended services.
