Winter Activities Popular at The Wesley Community

Senior woman in winter clothes waving from carWinters in the Northeast can be challenging for everyone, but they are particularly difficult for our senior population. Frigid temperatures, snow and ice make it nearly impossible to drive or even walk outside, not to mention the inherent dangers of snow removal. Family members and caretakers, too, are limited by weather conditions, not able to visit with aging seniors as they’d like, which can leave seniors feeling isolated and even depressed.

At The Wesley senior living community in Saratoga Springs, we help relieve the stress of winter for our residents by hosting a variety of events and activities to keep seniors active and engaged, as well as providing snow removal and transportation services to keep them safe.

Winter Things to Do for Seniors

There’s plenty to do during the winter at the Embury senior apartments, as well as Woodawn Commons, our independent and assisted living community in Saratoga Springs.

Embury Activites

For independent seniors living in the Embury apartments, The Wesley Community provides a wide variety of excursions and on-site events. In February alone, the community held a talent show for residents, as well as an indoor farmer’s market, clinics for hearing aids and blood pressure, and several bingo nights.

Residents also enjoy regularly scheduled weekly transportation to Hannaford and Price Chopper supermarkets, as well as Schwan’s food delivery twice a month. Plus, there are a variety of fitness classes from which to choose, including yoga, gentle stretching and balancing, arm chair yoga, strength and cardio training and a creative energy group. For socializing and a little fun, Embury offers a coffee social, movie screenings in the Café and “Coloring Like Crazy” every Tuesday.

Woodlawn Commons Activities

There’s no shortage of things to do at our independent and senior living community in Saratoga Springs. In fact, there are activities scheduled every day of the week, starting around 9 in the morning until 7pm at night.

Special monthly events in February include a Super Bowl Party, Candy Making Workshops for Valentine’s Day, and a Mardi Gras Social. There are also trips to The Spa Little Theater, dinner at Nove, lunch at Carson’s Tavern, and weekly mass at Saratoga Springs United Methodist Church and St. Clement’s Catholic Church, in addition to the religious services offered on campus.

Residents enjoy live musical performances, exercise classes, a walking club, and movie screenings, as well games and crafts, including bingo and Paint & Sip. We even offer massage and spa treatments, and provide regular transportation to CVS pharmacy, the post office, banking and shopping.
